D & S Life Agency, Inc. provides solutions and multi year benefit plans to improve client health and to better leverage health insurance costs. Constantly monitoring a variety of resources, we partner with employers to implement strategies to effectively and efficiently manage benefit plans. It’s just part of doing business with us.
Our focus emphasizes communication, design and funding options for our clients in the constantly changing benefit business.

William L. Kite, Jr

President

Bill, owner of D & S Agency, entered the insurance business in 1976 after graduating with a B.A. in English from Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia. He holds resident licenses in life, health and consulting and non-resident licenses in several other states.
Well versed in PPACA, Bill attended all of the Virginia Health Reform Initiative (exchange) public hearings. Virginia ultimately decided to use the Federally Facilitated Marketplace (FFM). In response to PPACA and other marketplace changes, Bill and his team have put together a self-funding option for clients that has consistently outperformed carrier trends in the area. He actively speaks to groups regarding PPACA and remains a constant student of the employee benefit industry.
Bill is an active partner and board member with United Benefit Advisors (UBA) where the sharing of ideas, information and technology have resulted in best in class service to clients. Through his commitment to sharing wisdom in the industry has was chosen by his peers nationally as the UBA Partner Firm of the Year in 2010. He is a member of the Piedmont Chapter of the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU) and actively advocates on behalf of businesses in Washington, D.C., and Richmond, VA, regarding PPACA.
Giving back to the community serving through various nonprofit organizations has been a major focal point for Bill. He also served eight years on the Society of Alumni Board at his alma mater.

Amanda Dammann

Director of Operations & Account Management

Amanda Dammann is a licensed life and health agent. Amanda holds a Master's Degree in Business and Health Administration from Liberty University. Amanda comes to D & S with 12 years of Program Management experience and 2 years of individual insurance education and sales know-how.
Amanda's primary role here at D & S will be ensuring client satisfaction by leading the customer account planning process and making certain that assigned customers' needs and expectations are thoroughly met.

Karen Kite

Executive Administrative Assistant

Karen is a licensed life and health advisor who has worked in the insurance industry since 2001 in various capacities. Her extensive background with group products enhances her skills as account service support. Karen is the central person at D & S who goes out to the insurance marketplace to obtain carrier quotes, allowing D & S Agency to offer the best pricing and client / employee solutions for the client's investment dollars.
Prior to obtaining her insurance license, Karen worked for a durable medical equipment supplier as office manager. She is a member of the Piedmont Chapter of the National Association of Health Underwriters.

Barbara Benson

Employee Benefit Advisor

Barbara Benson brings a wealth of employee benefit and group health insurance experience to the D & S Agency. She began her career in 1972 with Blue Cross/Blue Shield where she held a variety of positions of increasing responsibility in customer service, inside sales and outside group sales. During her career with Blue Cross, she won several awards for exceeding her sales requirements. Prior to joining D & S, Barbara served as an Employee Benefits Consultant and Group Insurance Advisor for over 14 years with a local property and casualty firm.
Barbara attended Virginia Western Community College where she studied Marketing and Business Administration and is an active member of the National Association of Health Underwriters.

Lisa Martin

Employee Benefits Advisor

Lisa Martin serves as an Employee Benefits Advisor in the Lynchburg, Appomattox and 29 corridor areas. With 25 years of experience she maintains Health, Life, Annuities and Consultant licenses for Virginia, as well as a Life, Accident & Health license in North Carolina. Her career includes experience in the insurance and financial industry. Prior to joining D&S, Lisa spent 17 years as an Account Executive for one of the largest commercial agencies in the Southeast and another 7 years as a Sales Assistant with Anthem BCBS.
Lisa began her career as a Branch Manager & Assistant Treasurer for New England Savings Bank in Connecticut after graduating from Miami University in Oxford Ohio with a BA in Communications. Lisa holds a Registered Health Underwriter's Designation and is a Certified Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act Professional.
In addition, Lisa serves on the United Way of Central Virginia Campaign Cabinet and the UWCV Appomattox Advisory Board. She is a member of the Exchange Club of Lynchburg and former Board of Director and currently is a Board Member of the Piedmont VA Association of Health Underwriters.
Lisa is very proud of the many distinguished honors and achievements she has had over her career, especially being named the 2005 Commonwealth Club recipient for Health & Dental and the Exchange Club Silver Spatula Award in 2003.

Kaleigh Fanning

Account Data Specialist

Kaleigh Fanning supports all of us and our clients as an Account Data Specialist. Prior to working at D & S, Kaleigh worked in the dental field where she handled insurance claims.
She is a licensed life and health agent. Kaleigh attended Virginia Western Community College where she studied Accounting and Business Management. She has a vast array of roles here at D & S that utilize her detail oriented skills and online enrollment specialties.

Phillip Tarpley

Technology & Data Manager

Phillip Tarpley is a licensed life and health agent who joined D&S in 2015. Phillip is a graduate of Emory & Henry College with a Bachelor's degree in Business Management and a Bachelor's degree in Sports Management.
Phillip's role includes working directly with clients, new plan implementation and day to day support of our Cherry Tree product.

Cherry Tree is an employer health insurance initiative that funnels the power of many employers into a single source negotiation that results in the same purchasing advantages experienced by large employers. The broad goal of this initiative is to take back control from the carrier for pricing, design, renewal, and other financial parameters of your health insurance program. In our model, we invite our stop loss carrier to be a partner in achieving the goals of our employer customers by serving employer needs as opposed to following the traditional approach that is in the insurance company’s interest.
